Leanne Tonkes is Director and Creative Producer of Sense & Centsability. She has become an advocate for Gender Equality and Diversity in the entertainment industry and champions the careers of female and diverse writers, directors and storytellers across all media.
Leanne produced AACTA nominated THE SECOND (2018), Mairi Cameron’s debut feature, and streaming service STAN’s first Original feature starring Rachael Blake, Susie Porter and Vince Colosimo. THE SECOND was funded by Screen Queensland and released theatrically and has sold to China, Spain, Portugal and Denmark and is also currently screening Inflight and on Stan.
Leanne produced THIS IS DESMONDO RAY! (2017) – an award-winning 6-part web series about a peculiar man searching for love in a dark and troubling world which was the winner of the Web Series World Cup for 2018 and is the most awarded series of all time. THIS IS DESMONDO RAY! was created by Tropfest and AFI award winning filmmaker Steve Baker, who recently won the 2018 Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Direction of an Animated series. Described as "the web series of a generation", Desmondo Ray has already won over 50 international awards.
Leanne produced MY MISTRESS (2014) - Director Stephen Lance’s debut feature – with Cinematographer Geoffrey Simpson, Academy Award® nominated editor Jill Bilcock, and Academy Award® winning costume designer Angus Strathie, starring internationally acclaimed French actress Emmanuelle Béart, AFI Award winning Harrison Gilbertson and Rachael Blake. The film was financed by Screen Australia, Screen Queensland and Film Victoria. It premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2014 and was released by Transmission Films in Australia. LevelK handled sales to many territories including US, UK, Japan, Russia, Germany, Hong Kong and Korea.
Leanne is producing DUSTFALL, Emma Freeman’s debut feature film with Jo Werner, and an adaptation of Erin McKean’s best-selling novel, THE SECRET LIVES OF DRESSES, written by Megan Simpson Huberman & Stephen Lance. She is adapting other books including THE WEDDING SEASON with writer/actor Menik Gooneratne and a biopic on Prof Graeme Clark the man who invented the Bionic Ear.
Leanne is currently producing MY MELBOURNE with Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM, featuring the work of established Indian iconic directors – Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, Onir, and Australian emerging talent.
Leanne is a recent Screen Australia Enterprise recipient, a founding board member of the Melbourne Women in Film Festival and one of the few Australian producers to complete the top-level highly regarded international Inside Pictures Screen Business development program.
