In 1959 South Australia, May and her elephant Alice, are the belles of the circus troupe that they've traveled with since childhood. When the caravan has an accident and becomes stranded at the drought, red-dust ridden potato farm of a widower and his two young daughters. May gets a taste of real freedom and love. But after a lifetime of near servitude to the circus, can she find the inner strength to seize an identity for herself?
